Camera History and Information
- The "camera obscura" effect is latin for "dark room". It works (achieved) inside a completely dark room, a tiny hole is created in one wall. Through the hole light is focused, and the outside scene is projected (upside down) on the opposite wall.
- The invention during the 17th century that helped get us a step closer to creating the modern camera was high quality lenses.
- The parts of the first modern camera invented by Niepce were a glass lens, a dark box, and film.
- modern digital cameras work the same way as Niepce’s camera because the light passes through the lens, into the camera, and exposes the film.
- Digital cameras use an electronic sensor called a CDD to capture an image.
- The difference between the auto mode and program mode is in auto mode the camera will completely control flash and exposure while in program mode you can control the flash.
- Portrait mode is used for blurring out the background. The camera will try to use the fastest available lens settings.
- Sports mode is used to freeze motion. The camera will use the highest shutter speed possible.
- You should half press on the trigger button because you get better control over focus, you get faster camera response time, and it encourages better composition.
- The symbol means that the flash is disabled on the camera. You can use this when the natural light is more dramatic than the flash.
- This symbol means that auto flash is on. You will use this when you want the camera to decide if you need more light or not.
- If there is too much light the photo will be washed out.
- If theres not enough light the photo will be too dark.
- A "stop" is a relative change in the brightness of light.
- The new planet is 1 stop brighter with two suns.
- If there are four suns instead of one the new planet is 2 stops brighter.
- A long shutter speed has the affect of more light.
- A shorter shutter speed has the affect of less light.
- The aperture controls the light before it reaches the film.
- When adjusting the aperture you can increase the amount of light by changing the aperture settings from f16 to f8.
