Camera History and Information

Camera History and Information
  1. The "camera obscura" effect is latin for "dark room". It works (achieved) inside a completely dark room, a tiny hole is created in one wall. Through the hole light is focused, and the outside scene is projected (upside down) on the opposite wall.
  2. The invention during the 17th century that helped get us a step closer to creating the modern camera was high quality lenses.
  3.  The parts of the first modern camera invented by Niepce were a glass lens, a dark box, and film.
  4. modern digital cameras work the same way as Niepce’s camera because the light passes through the lens, into the camera, and exposes the film.
  5. Digital cameras use an electronic sensor called a CDD to capture an image.
  6. The difference between the auto mode and program mode is in auto mode the camera will completely control flash and exposure while in program mode you can control the flash.
  7. Portrait mode is used for blurring out the background. The camera will try to use the fastest available lens settings.
  8. Sports mode is used to freeze motion. The camera will use the highest shutter speed possible.
  9. You should half press on the trigger button because you get better control over focus, you get faster camera response time, and it encourages better composition.
  10. The symbol means that the flash is disabled on the camera. You can use this when the natural light is more dramatic than the flash.
  11. This symbol means that auto flash is on.  You will use this when you want the camera to decide if you need more light or not.
  12.  If there is too much light the photo will be washed out.
  13. If theres not enough light the photo will be too dark.
  14.  A "stop" is a relative change in the brightness of light.
  15. The new planet is 1 stop brighter with two suns.
  16. If there are four suns instead of one the new planet is 2 stops brighter.
  17.  A long shutter speed  has the affect of more light.
  18. A shorter shutter speed has the affect of less light.
  19. The aperture controls the light before it reaches the film.
  20. When adjusting the aperture you can increase the amount of light by changing the aperture settings from  f16 to f8.
